A Model for Optimizing and Designing Environmental Legislation (M.O.D.E.L.)
The weakening of federal environmental protections, such as the National Environmental Policy Act under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Fiscal Responsibility Act, has resulted in significant uncertainty regarding the evaluation of cumulative impacts in legislative and regulatory actions. Consequently, it has become imperative for environmental justice advocates to focus on local and state strategies that can address the placement of multiple-polluting sources in our most vulnerable communities and their detrimental effects on public health and climate change.
Drawing inspiration from the groundbreaking efforts of New Jersey and New York, we strive to establish a solid foundation for the enactment of local and state legislation throughout the United States that tackles cumulative impacts head-on.
Together, we can dismantle injustice and create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
